Stem Cells
Stem cells come from two main sources.
The first are theEmbryos which are formed during the blastocyst phase of embryological development (embryonic stem cells). The second is the Adult tissue. (adult stem cell) Both types are able to split into different types of cells like the skin, muscle and bone cells. Adult stem cells can be found throughout your body from the embryonic development that are found in different types of tissue. Adult stem cells will stay in a nondividing state for years until activated by disease or tissue injury. Stem cells areundifferentiated cells of a multicellular organism that is capable of giving rise to indefinitely more cells of the same type, and from which certain other kinds of cells arise by differentiation.
Embryonic stem cells however are stem cells which involve taking tissue from an aborted embryo to get proper material to study. Embryonic stem cells have the potential to clone into different humans.Stem cells that are extracted from the embryos can be any desired cell type. This property makes stem cells powerful enough to regenerate damaged tissue under the right conditions. Adult stem cells can be used to treat diseases like leukemia.
Stem cells are able to transform into blood cell types, such as red blood cells that carry oxygen to white blood cells to fight the disease. Some stem cell research is going to try to develop new drugs. There are definitely pros and and cons of stem cell research. Stem cells have the potential to help people with Parkinsons disease and Leukemia. Stem cells also can have the potential and the power to clone into different humans. You may think why not, what is the problem with cloning humans, what could go wrong? The main reason people don’t want to do stem cell research and are against it is thatpeople should stop trying to play God.
That is the main con and problem with stem cell research. Some pros with stem cell research is that it has been proven that it has the possibility to stop some major diseases in the world like Leukemia and cardiovascular disease.Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer in the UK with nearly 3 million heart problems and if stem cells have the potential to save those lives that would be a major pro to make sure to use this stem cell research and save these lives. In stem cell research there is definitely some pros and cons of stem cell research. Stem cell research has some pros and definitely some cons at the same time.
I personally think that stem cell research is a helpful advantage when you are going to help cure diseases but where it get into some negatives is when the stem cell is going to try and be used for cloning humans.I disagree with using stem cells for cloning humans because I feel that they that they are trying to play God and it is going against my religious beliefs and I think it is interfering with human life. I completely agree with stem cell research when it has the possibility to stop all kinds of diseasesand save millions of lives who might have birth defects or have Alzheimer’s disease. The thought of someone taking a life to do research is terrible. I think a life is a life and that should never be compromised. A fertilized egg should be valued as a human life even if it is in its very first weeks.
Destroying human life in the hopes of saving human life is not ethical. There are definitely pros and cons to stem cell research. They can help curemultiple diseases and they also might have the potential to start to clone humans and that is where I think they are going a little too far. Stem cell research should stick with helping patients with Leukemia and other diseases and try and help fight these diseasesbut when they are starting to clone humans I think that is wrong.I don’t feel they are using the stem cells to help humans but they are using them more for experiments when they should be helping patients who truly need help.
In conclusion, there are definitely a lot of positives of stem cell research but we still have not discovered a lot of risks that can be taken with using stem cell research.
