School Start Time Too Early??
She sat there with her eyes half closed staring at the video about black death in history class. She obviously hadn’t had enough sleep the night before. Or gotten up early for school. She said ” I went to bed at a normal time, but I am not a big fan of getting up at 6 am.
” She hadn’t had enough sleep because of the early start time of school. Children in middle school and high school tend to be late, and sleepy in school due to the early start time of school. How do we fix this? Well, the school could start the school day later in the day so students have enough sleep at night. Students tend to stay up late doing homework , texting, playing games, or has too much stress from school and is having trouble sleeping. The lack of sleep throws off the internal body system called the circadian clock.
Throwing off that clock can cause serious problems like car accidents and depression leading to suicidal thoughts or actions. It will also cause kids not to learn in class because their dozing off from not getting enough sleep. That can bring down their grades. Another solution would to have a choice of classes. Morning class that starts at normal hours (8:30) and end at 12:30, or the afternoon class that starts at 12:30 and ends at 4:30. This will give the students a choice of their school start time, cause some students have no problem with getting up early.
They would have the right amount of sleep they need to be able to function during the day. There aresolutions that students can do on their own. One will be go to bed earlier. Kids think the older you get the later you should go to bed, which is true, but going to bed around 10 or 11 is too late. 8-9 i sa good time to go to bed cause it gives you a little more time to sleep. More sleep equals more energy for the next day to come.
Kids say ” I stay up late cause of homework” but if the students did their homework right when they get home and don’t do anything till they’re done they would finish before they have to go to bed. Student also stay up doing things such as with friends, tv, video games, texting people,or homework. If students learned that they don’t need that stuff everyday of their lives, they wouldn’t have as much trouble sleeping as they do. Students have a time for homework, games, and friends before they go to bed. They would go to bed on time and have enough for the day to come.
