April 16, 2013 Who is to Blame for our Nation’s Obesity Rates? What Should be Done? Who do you think is to blame for our nation’s obesity rates? Perhaps, the government. More laws and regulations should be made to prevent any continued increase in such rates.
Out of all countries, the United States has the highest obesity rates, and who is to blame? There are many answers to this question. The government allows restaurants to sell food that is more than 40% pure fat. (www.wiki.answers.com).
Targeting Teens Fast food restaurants target young adults by offering them jobs. Fast food restaurants such as Mcdonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell etc. hire young teens to work long hours. People refer to them as low income workers. They’re required to have a positive attitude, offer specials to rude customers while they’re getting payed 7 dollars an hour.
The government shouldn’t allow fast food restaurants to target teens by offering jobs. Commercials, posters and magazines keep us updated on what’s new. Fast food restaurants announce their newest creations on T.V and high signs way. What they don’t announce is how the food is made.
100% of meat served at fast food restaurants is frozen and processed. Why would the government allow processed food to be sold? Fast food restaurants often advertise their products by using famous people to grab peoples attention. Most of the time they don’t announce the food in their advertisement in their commercial. If restaurants such as McDonalds and burger king sold healthier food or broke down, our nation’s obesity rates would decrease. New laws are regulations should be made. Food prices should increase. The time to make the food should increase.
