Jay Gatz

Characters whether that be in life perceived as real or even in that of fiction have profound impacts upon those who observe such personalities and can even sometimes perform acts of aid to some’s mentality and being. One such character who performed this effect of commensalism in assisting me to become a better person was Jay Gatz from the world renowned novel The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald. Before understanding the alternative personality showcased by Jay in the novel, I was previously convinced that messages, names or concepts in the realm of forgery remained that way.

However, subsequent to analyzing the read, a much better understanding of the link between what is considered hoax and genuine became surprisingly apparent. Millions have been impacted ardently by various personas in films and publications alike myself in diverse manners through our senses, imaginations and our variance of purposes. Jay Gatz remains so remarkably idiosyncratic to me because through a penned message, the notion that wealth cannot buy happiness became particularly explicit. In the novel The Great Gatsby an exceedingly affluent young man by the name of Jay Gatz lives an ironical life centered around the predicament of the incapacity of being with his erstwhile lover from years prior. Jay Gatz, or to those who accompanied him, “Gatsby” was a lavish man with few faults who provided gaiety to countless Long Island residents.

However, later divulged to the reader and the protagonist of the novel was the fallaciousness that Gatsby gave off exclusively with money. In an attempt to prove his self righteousness to many with adesire of only one, Gatsby fabricated the story of his life and produced acts for the sole reasoning of reuniting with a woman whom he once was intimate with. Only after Gatsby’s hapless and deliberate death was the true tale of his being revealed. The once beatific and fortunate “Jay Gatsby” with few flaws was now discovered to be a favored con artist who rose to prosperity through means of illicit acts. Jay Gatz went to the extent of creating a fake name and life to escape not only his origination, but himself as well. The true story of Jay Gatz was a boy who was born to an impecunious family who attempted to never relate to the struggles of his own blood.

Once Jay became 18, in an unfortunate time he was drafted to serve in World War 1 and was forced to leave the love of his life. Once returned, Jay advanced to school and began a career. However, once the marriage of his previous inamorata was uncovered, the dedication of his life became centered on retrieving the woman he loved by any means necessary. Putting aside all principles and traits he once possessed, Jay began a new life devoted to someone who wasn’t him, resulting in a loss of personal contentment and any character he could truly call himself. Despite what everyone else viewed “Gatsby” as, the disconsolation in his life was only known by himself and although having all the resources to mend the sorrow in his life, the idea of happiness rather than the feeling of it controlled Jay’s life. Gatsby’s enthusiastically contagious personality gave a sense of hospitality to not only the characters in the novel but the reader likewise.

However, the reader unlike those within the novel was informed of the erroneous persona being performed by Jay and not only explored the life and it’s entitlements of Jay Gatsby, but Jay Gatz as well. An achievement most in the world attempt to accomplish is becoming affluent and believe that this will eradicate all complications in their lives. Jay Gatsby answers a regularly questioned ideology that somehow currency can provide happiness with an unfortunate conclusion that it is simply not able to. Characters like that of Jay Gatz from The Great Gatsby not only provide emotional moments entitled in the read, but a message that carries beyond the text. One character has not only answered a question that is wondered by many, but to me that a fictional character has the ability to do so.
