Macbeth

Peer pressure is like air pressure in tires, when friends or family say good things that help you meet your goals it could be considered positive peer pressure. But when your friends tell you bad thing or things that are to make you do bad things then that can be considered negative peer pressure, this negative pressure takes air out of you and jeopardizes your future. Macbeth is a man that continually fights with himself; he is a man that is pressured very easily and that does not know how to make his own decisions.

The theory by freud clearly explains what goes on in Macbeth; We know that macbeth is a man easily pressured in Act 1 scene 5 it states ” … glamis thou art, and cawdor shall be what thou promised. Yet do I fear thy nature; it is to full o’ th’ milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way. Thou wouldst be great, art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it”(1.5.15-20). This shows us that once lady macbeth received the letter from macbeth detailing the prophecy of the 3 witches, she went straight to her ambition of power and murder.

We know that macbeth ended up killing duncan but why did he? The reason was because of peer pressure. In feuds theory he states ” … most behaviors are caused by thoughts, ideas, and wishes that are in person’s brain but are not easily accessible by the conscious part of the mind. In other words your brain know things that your mind does not; In act 1 scene 7 it states ” If it were done when ‘tis done, then ‘twere well if done quickly… but this blow might be the be-all and end-all here, But, here upon this bank and shoal of time, we’d jump the life to come”(1.7.1-6). This tells us that Macbeth was considering not to kill Duncan because after all Duncan was his king and Macbeth should have been loyal to him.

At this time there were multiple things going on in Macbeth’s mind. When someone believes that to receive power they need to kill someone there is a lot of thinking your brain does; when you plan to do something that major there is no clear thinking, its the pressure and ambition that consumes you. Lady Macbeth was the negative air in this case she thought she was doing her husband a favor but in reality she was not. Because of her Macbeth turned into a man of many problems. “Feud suggests that certain ideas and thoughts are repressed, that is, pushed out of awareness and into the unconscious. This happens, according to Freud’s theory, when these ideas and thoughts are threatened to us”.

Macbeth started as a good man, a man that was loyal to his king. This play is a perfect example of how peer pressure can damage us and make us turn bad. We need better influences in our lives so that we can fill ourselves with positive air. When we have negative air inside ofus we tend not to think clearly, and everyday of our lives we make a decision and it is imperative we know wha
