Conducting Research Concerning Police Officers and Their Jobs
My major goal for this task is to vehemently conduct research on the eventual effects of the work that police officers undertake have on their lives, both at professional level and also at their personal level. This paper should clearly provide an easy way for both professionals in this field as well as all individuals who yearn to get ideas relating to the lives that police officers live.
Police officers always dedicate their entire lives to not only serving and protecting people but also dearly representing their community, city, or town in line with the great protection they are out to provide. Their major goal is always to protect the country’s citizens from any danger and also prevent crimes that people may commit. In this paper, I will clearly explain on how being a respected field officer can eventually have many multiple affects on any officer in their life, either professionally or even on his or her personal life. This can be clearly witnessed especially if any given police officer has either been hurt in his or her line of duty or service. In the event of being hurt, any officer may be seen having not only many physical effects or impacts but also many mental effects on their lives. This eventually calls for that officer to yearn towards finding or elucidating professional psychiatric assistance to discuss their problems.
Many Police officers normally commence their days by ensuring that they are ready for their day of long and hard work. These many hours at work mean that they not only set aside their own lives but also put their lives in extreme danger all the times they decide to walk out of the office door and into their cruisers. At this time many officers often spend most of the time in their shift patrolling the place and nation at large. In a bid to acieve the best results for my research, I will employ the one-on-one interviews. This will involve questioning of the participants, mainly police officers, and getting their direct responses, spot on.
This method is considered the most convenient of all interviewing techniques. One schedules his or her convenient time for the interview then confirms with the interviewees. If the two parties agree, it is a deal done. One also gets the direct responses from the participants. In this case I will be at a position to decipher what the police officers have in their mind. I will also assess the current situation of the participants as I will have direct contact with them.
It will be possible to elucidate what the police officers actually go through in their lives. I will also be well placed to come up with further queries that will aid my research to be more substantive. When interacting with the police officers I may learn of some instances that I may not have considered earlier in my research work and questionnaire. With their responses, I can create other questions that I may not have thought of earlier on. One-on-one interviews will always stand out from other methods as one can express his or her feelings and expressions while participating in the whole research. In case there could be some police officers who could be against my research, I will have an opportunity to explain to them the benefits of that research and how it will help in making their work better, for them, the nation and their families.
That will ensure that I have many interviewees and hence the whole process will be a success. Questions that I ought to ask will be critical towards my success. I would wish to know the duration that each participant has been in duty. Secondly, I would request them to tell me which positions they hold in their field. Third, I would also ask for the responsibilities they have at their place of work.
Fourth, knowing how their families feel about the kind of job they pursue. Lastly, the risks that they undergo will also be crucial to my research. The duration that they have worked in that field will give me an idea of the experience that each participant holds at that place. It will also make me relate the kind of risks that their job exposes them to with their experience, and how they deal with it. The positions that they hold at their places of work will make me elucidate on the responsibilities allocated to them and how they tackle them. I will also understand if the institution is fair in terms of allocation of responsibilities, and which criteria they employed.
Their families will definitely have something to comment about their job and hence I will understand how the police officers deal with those scenarios.A qualitative data-gathering method stands as the best strategy since it gives a clear view of the real situation on the ground. One can experience what the police officers undergo by interacting with them. He or she may also have other questions that one may have forgotten to consider in the questionnaire, and that will be the best opportunity to present it. Informed consent and also confidentiality are necessary whenever one is conducting a research. They give the participants a ground to trust each other and keep what they deem secret and sacred in their earlier state.
Research should be planned for and this is where informed consent comes in. It is better to handle any research activity when every party is confident of their rights.
