Assessment 2, part B Case study (Vary) IQ. Briefly describe how you could support Vary to work with her uncertainty and difficulties about making the Wright choices for her future. Loud support Vary by helping her clarify what it is she wants to achieve and more specifically, put these in order of priority. We could us the SMART Technique for this which means Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely strategic goals.
I Identify her own strengths and resources to help her achieve those set goals, and we could also have to look at her behavior.
Q.Briefly describe three Interventions you could use to support Vary to gain clarity and understanding and make the appropriate changes.1.Cognitive Detonator tannery.
You would use cognitive behavior therapy which would help her to possibly identify some of her thoughts and possibly some of her own held beliefs of herself and others. You could also challenge her and put her in a situation and get her to see how it looks from another person’s prospective.
2. Role play. I would role play with Vera so she could get use to voicing her concern to her husband and not be afraid to do so.
This would also help her overcome any fear she may have if he responds with anger and or demanding expectations of what she should or shouldn’t be doing. This is something I think needs to be addressed in order for her to archive her goals.
3. International and systemic interventions This helps address relationship patterns with other people, tasks and situation’s, it may be ones of family, workplace, or neighborhood settings or in a social situation in which the international patterns have been established. The strategies will help Vary to eliminate old behavior that where counterproductive and to develop new ones, they may also modify routines and habits with people around her.
Q.
Identify and briefly describe how you could help Vary to identify and use her unknown strength’s. I would help her by pointing out her own achievement’s in the past, the fact that she had a career as a full time teacher and that she has managed to raise three children in that time, she can manage money well by saving regularly so she is more than capable of looking after the finances while living independently.
She also has a network of close friends for support she has also started to question the dynamics of her family and her relationship with her husband. Her decision to use the community resource of counseling was a big step in making changes in her life, is strength in itself. Briefly describe two micro-skills to clarify Vary-s feeling about her situation.
1 Paraphrasing This would help by reflecting back content of what Vary has said and help clarify what feelings, conflicts, strengths, she may have. I would condense what the client has said into a shorter version and more succinct and highlight what are the key feeling are or the core issues that are contained in the original statement.
2 Summarizing. This is also in useful in helping Vary clarify what she has said and her concerns. During the counseling session it is important to stop and reflect on the progress of hat is happening with the client.
By doing this it helps to clarify their concerns and help priorities different issues and insure that they are still on track, sometimes the client may be very confused and find it difficult to think to logically and words Just spill put.
Explain how you will monitor and review Para’s and your own perceptions of the counseling process to ensure it remains of value. Vary expresses her sense of hopelessness and uncertainly about whether counseling is helpful. I would reiterate what counseling is and what it entails; priorities goals and strategies to achieve this. I would also mention that to achieve this client also has to actively participate to achieve these goals and can’t be left up to the counselor as it is the person who is responsible and guided to take the initiative to do. Confront her unwillingness to change and focus on what events have brought this resistance or reluctance.
Q. Briefly describe how you could respond to this disruption in the counseling process. I be up front and transparent with my client, explain the benefits, but the most important rule is to listen to them and their reasons for not wanting to be there, or tot completing set tasks or goals. Sometimes it is Just a matter of rearranging so that it fits into their schedule.
I as a counselor have to remember we are there to HELP the client, not push or cajole them into attending or completing tasks/goals. I would address the sense of hopelessness and uncertainty.
If they do not want help in changing their lives we cannot force them. Vary does want to change she needs encouragement, she is used to be told what and when to do it by her husband she has the strength to get a Job and come to counseling so he wants to change….
Showing cultural understanding and reevaluating her emotional and environmental goals.
Reflecting on what she has managed to obtain that has been a success education, being a mother, relocating to Australia, getting a Job, managing her finances, maintaining the household etc. , Brings awareness to her positives in her life and her inner strengths to give her the ability to continue in counseling. Redefining what is achievable and even baby steps are a positive to becoming happier.
