A Never Ending Sport
Bill Cosby once said, “In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure”. Football changed my life to become a better player, learn to recognize that everything doesn’t come to you, unless you’re willing to work your very best. Discipline, leadership, propriety, and ambition, some characteristics I’d never had before. Graduation from high school, then heading to college is what I think about every morning. I will be the second in my family to graduate from high school, and continue to study to become an F.
B.I agent. Through my years I’ve made mistakes that hopefully didn’t seem to damage my future. Everyone makes mistakes. No one is perfect; I’m capable of a much greater achievement. My first practice morning arrived, I remember this day as torture, it felt just like being in hell.
When I spoke to the coach, he had a repugnant look in his eyes. I attempted to push myself the whole practice, but it became unbelievably difficult and had me sick to my stomach. That day really tested my agility, my skill, and mainly my heart. After day one, it right away separated the men from the boys. It was only the first day! My coach kept screaming “Don’t cheat yourself, treat yourself!”, “You won’t get anywhere if you don’t see yourself begging for water, you’ll thank me later”.
I kept screaming to my teammates don’t give up on yourself, do what’s best for you, even if it was during laps, push ups, etc. Never in my life have I wanted to achieve a task, I began to do more than I did since grade school. I knew I wasn’t ready. Day one went by, I knew there were three weeks of hardcore practice, like that day. I felt this urge of succeeding; never in my life have I been so dedicated and motivated to be the best.
Football changed me as a person; I became different on how I act when I tend to want something. Striving, reaching, pushing, attempting is all I had since day one. I’ve fallen numerous number of times through the past three years, but getting right back up was mandatory. The values of life: discipline, leadership, and propriety. I currently am on a role to successfully graduate high school, and pass on the roll of getting into college like my sibling.
“Don’t cheat yourself, treat yourself.” A quote I’ll never forget, because now things are hard, but in the future It’ll be worth it all. Many people tend to claim football is just a sport, to me it was a complete life changer. Life can take you up and straight to the bottom of your knees, but knowing how to get right back up is key. I want to graduate college, with a major in criminal justice, a task my family has never achieved, I want to make them proud, but not just to please them, but to live a future full of success. No one on my father, and mother’s sides have a career in criminal justice.
For both generations I’d be the first to pursue my dream of becoming an F.B.I. agent, or a D.E.A.
agent. Discipline, leadership, and propriety is what football has taught me, ever since the first practice, to the end of my life. I will always remember nothing comes unless you’re willing to put in the work.
