As a first time college student I have come to realize that its takes hard work and dedication to be successful academically. In order to be successful there are many factors that will lead to a victorious academic career. These skills will help me become successful with my academic goals and a clear outline to the path of my education. It is extremely important to have a plan before the process beings. To achieve these goals there must be a system in place for time management and studying. While attending Axia College, this student survival guide will help me get the most out of my college experience.

As a student through distance learning, the student survival guide will consist of six separate subjects: using Axia’s educational resources, upholding academic honesty, setting and achieving goals, managing time wisely, fostering reading comprehension and retention and applying personality and learning styles. These following topics will explain how to become successful in certain areas of Axia Collage and how to train myself to learn effectively and to my best ability. Axia College has a large number of learning skills that can be used for success of each student.

As an Axia student, I am familiar with using Axia’s educational resources. A few of the resources are extremely handy and adaptable in the application that a student needs.

One of the resource tools that I have found most beneficial in my learning process is the Axia Center for Writing Excellence (CWE). The Center for Writing Excellence offers a plagiarism and grammar checker. Here, I can submit my writing materials to have them checked for plagiarism and grammar errors. I also used the grammar guide frequently. I believe that one of my biggest faults in writing is grammatical errors.

The Center for Writing Excellence also offers example papers, essay development, tutorials guides and writing manuals.

There are also other resources such as, Axcess Course Materials, Course Syllabus, Student Workshops, and Visual and Audio Tutorials. These tools can be found at ecampus for Axia College of University of Phoenix. Axia College also provides a useful online library that can be access to help students with their studies. This library offers three different databases which students can use to research class assignments.

The three databases are EBSCOhost, Gale Power Search, and ProQuest.

Here I can find articles, journals, and other sources of educationally based on the material in my search I conduct. The possibilities are endless. Learning how to use online library is crucial as an Axia student. I believe that every student could benefit tremendously from the educational resources listed above. The educational resource is a skill that all students should have in their survival guidebook.

Academic honesty plays an important role in a student’s education to achieving success in a learning environment.

In the field of distance learning honesty is essential for student’s to have success particularly with his or her writing. Upholding an academic honesty is a respected trait that a student carriers with them throughout their education. Plagiarizing is against Axia standers and will not be allowed. When a student chooses to site an Arthur he or she should all way use the corrected citation.

For example; Axia College’s Writing Style Handbook has proved a step-by-step tool to show students the correct way to write. This handbook proves me with specific examples of writing style.

Making sure that students are honesty in their writing and paraphrasing in are our words. Being an honesty student well show the professor that you are committed to their education. I learn that setting and achieving goals is extremely important for the academic career. The reasons for setting goals are important because goals give people a guideline and help them experience everything in life.

In order to be successful at Axia College, setting academic and life goals can help me achieve them. Students should set both short-term and long-range goals to help them reach their vision.

By setting goals I am taking control of want I need in life. This is like having a map to show him or her where they want to go. For example writing down your goals in a particular fashion you are able to achieve them.

When setting goals the person should include; present tense, a positive attitude, personal goals, must be clear, possible, and powerful words. Managing time wisely effectively is a significant tool to have when working towards a degree. Time management is an essential skill that every student should have has a quality.

Managing time is a quality that involves commitment, patience, and preparation. I learn that setting and achieving my goals is extremely important for the academic career at Axia College.

The reason why setting goals are important because goals can help people do, be, and experience everything I want in life and school. Instead of letting life happen to a person, goals allow me to make my life happen. In order to be successful at Axia College, setting academic and life goals can help a person achieve them. Reading comprehension does not always come easy and may require a great deal of patience and focus. When I read or skim through my materials I like to use the SQ3R skill to help me process the reading.

SQ3R stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review.

SQ3R is a skill that every Axia student should learn and process through his or her academic career. When using this skill I recommend that student sit in a quite place with no distractions and focus on the reading materials assigned. I find it beneficial and useful to review my reading a couple of times, ask question, and take notes. This way I am able to comprehend the materials more successful. Fostering reading comprehension and retention is another key element that takes practices and will in prove in time.

Personality and learning style are two of the greatest keys to academic success.

Key’s that all students should learn and have in their Student Survival Guidebook. Personality and learning style are probably two of the greatest keys to academic success. All students should have these keys in their survival guidebook. Everyone has a different personality and learning style is a reflection of one’s unique individual. Personality is an ability that is important in a distance learning environment.

For example learning his or her type of personality can tell a person a lot about themselves.

When I took the personality test, for one of my classes at Axia I learn that my intelligence score is intrapersonal intelligence. This test told me plenty about myself in a distance learning that I did not know. For instead intrapersonal is a person that likes to work alone and aware of their own strengths and weaknesses. Knowing my intelligence is a great source to have in your guidebook. In addition to personality style, learning style is just as important.

There is a wide variety of different learning styles. Some students are visual learners, while others are more auditory learners.

In order to better understand his or her learning style they need to be honest with one self. This will help them to be able to see his or her learning style and better comprehend which works best for them. Students need to explore both personality and learning style in order to be successful in an academic career. The student Survival Guide is a great tool to know in his or her academic career.

I feel that I learned a great deal knowledge at Axia College. I will make sure to use all six skills in my career and education.
