Positive Social Change
Introduction: Social networking is the setting up of social relations such as sharing of activities and interests among people (Carrington, Scott & Wasserman 2005). This can be done through face-to-face interaction between individuals, but in today’s world, social networking has become so common with online interaction due to the advent of computer technology. Online interaction allows individuals to exchange messages such as electronic mails and chats over the internet. The sites of social networking enable people to share activities, ideas, events, and activities within the individual networks.
It has been found that online interaction is most common among the teenager population. The teens perceive online communication more private than face-to-face communication. Face-to-face type of communication allows for more satisfaction since the involved individuals experience an increased degree of closeness as well as self-disclosure (Mallen, Day & Green, 203). Research question: 1. How does the recent rise of social networking affect teens’ view of privacy versus public use of communication? Purpose of the proposed research: The research is meant to determine on whether the recent rice of social networking can influence teens’ perception of privacy versus public use of communication.
The discourse and relational variables between online and face-to-face communication will be examined to discover how the initial online communication if different from the face-to-face type of communication. After the research, the researcher will gain an understanding concerning both online and face-to-face communication between a client and a therapist. Face-to-face communication is believed to have different characteristics as compared to online communication (Mallen, Day & Green, 2003). Positive social change: According to Cummings & Worley (2008), a ppositive social change can be defined as a transformation that brings about positive outcomes and this can take place at different levels, for instance: individual, organizations, neighborhoods, family systems, nationally, and even globally. This involves a process in which strategies, actions, and ideas are created and applied to enhance worth, development, and dignity of individuals, institutions, societies, organizations, communities, and cultures.
The positive social change ensures that social and human conditions are improved. The study will provide useful information that will contribute into the researcher’s understanding regarding online and face-to-face communication between a client and a therapist. The first encounter of a therapist and a client is that, the two are strangers who are getting to know one another. The participants will realize the impacts of mere online communication such that they can interchangeably use the face-to-face communication in some occasions.
