Strategic Plan Critique Paper
The following document contains the consolidated feedback that members of Team C provided to each other as the final individual assignments for the strategic plans were completed.
This was a useful tool in providing a peer review prior to the final submission of the individual assignment. This task allowed each team member the opportunity to provide recommendations for others to enhance their own papers as well as provide some insight on areas where our own papers could be best finalized. K. ‘s Feedback for the Team Patricia: The background and executive summary of the paper lay a good foundation for the strategic analysis.I noticed that there were a number of grammatical errors throughout the paper which is to be expected with a rough draft.
It might be good to go over the paper 2-3 times to check for errors. Your paper is a tad bit verbose and the conclusion has not been added yet. Your paper is informative and well researched and does an excellent job of developing ideas and concepts. Reducing the word limit might eliminate some of your ideas so chose carefully which sections of the paper are eliminated. Sabrina: You are off to a great start in terms of the information that you have gathered about the company.
From the paper I assumed that you have some affiliation with the company, but I not sure if we are supposed to write in the first person for this assignment. This is something that perhaps should be discussed with the professor to make sure that you don’t lose points. You’re SWOT analysis is strong and should serve as a great aid as you finalize the remainder of your paper. I also would like to suggest that you refer to the APA format for citing sources, but I know this is a rough draft you may have already realized that. I also did not see a vision statement for H;R Block.Your paper shows great promise and should yield a good mark.
Suzanne: You paper is well researched and has a concise flow which makes it easy to read and understand. I was not familiar with this company, but your background and history of the organization was informative allowing readers that are ignorant to its operations a good foundation. Your environmental analysis did a good job of analyzing the factors that influence the business which allowed you to develop clear and concise long term objectives. I would suggest that headers be used under each of the external environments for each factor.This makes the paper easier to follow.
Your paper is almost complete save for a few sections, but overall it is a strong, well researched paper. P’s Feedback for the Team Kebreab: Great research so far, and know more is to come! The paper has a good solid word information and from your papers before you do great work with formation, study content, and APA formatting. Also good research on the paper also. I can stress the APA format here for I already know that you do that in your papers, but if you keep the same flow with knowledge of the paper with the ideas you have already formed then you should have a good solid paper.The only thing I can comment on is the wording for the APA format structure is not here, but again from past papers you have prepared I know you are familiar with the format. From the team assessment on the group work you always do a great write up so I have no problem with thinking that this paper will not be the same.
Sabrina: The paper is well researched, with good sentence structure. Good format but the third person of I needs to be removed due to the it is not allowed in the APA format. So far what I have seen is good, and with a good research background.You have separation of titles and headings and that makes the paper flow very well. Good SWOT analysis, and also of the Critical Factors with the chart. The paper is not yet finished but the parts that are there are very descriptive.
Executive summary was good also and it did hit on most of the parts of the paper, overall good assessment of the H&R Block plan. The greatest asset to the paper to me was your description of the Strategy Analysis of H&R Block and the way you presented the facts.Good word flow, but just reword the personal pronoun of I which is not allowed in APA formatting. Good paper with great research! Suzanne: The paper was great with a lot of research and the greatest asset of the paper was the way you did the strategy and the way it refer to the certain parts of the internal and external. The grid will help a person be more visual with the factors that are involved with the strategy point and the long-term objectives which will give the paper a visual of the each against each other, and see how they correlate.That was a good point and how you brought it out.
The financial could be a bit more descriptive and the short executive summary of yours will almost make me rewrite my part. Also and this is good feedback to read other papers, then it is when we see the mistakes we made. Altogether it is a good paper, few grammatical errors, but from your work before you do excellent writing, research, and proof reading skills. Good paper! The only thing I could complain about the paper is that headers are needed to separate each item you are talking about.That is what I did and I wrote too much in my paper, but separation of the headers for the topics will draw the attention to the reader when they are looking to refer to something, and if a header is there it is easy to follow. The following recommendations are for you to consider as you put together the rest of your paper. The formatting of the paper will likely happen as you finalize it, but keep in mind the standard APA formatting requirements and the recommended outline provided.I would also recommend that you look to some of the work you have already completed for the class because discussion questions have already covered a great deal of the information such as the critical success factors and roadmap areas that will help you to further formulate the pieces of the assignment. After reading through what you have so far it appears you have a lot of good information on the company and as the paper is further compiled you will have the ability to capitalize on the enormous amount of information available on Dell.
Patricia Overall this is a very good paper with a few additional finalizing things to consider.There is a lot of great detail included in the executive summary, however, it makes that section very long which is somewhat contrary to the goal of an executive summary. I’d recommend revising the executive summary to condense the information and utilize the highlights only and expand upon the details in the body of the document. You mentioned within your post that you felt you were running long with the paper and would need to cut some areas. My recommendation upon reading through your paper is to focus on the extracts you have pulled from Pearce and Robinson and see what of the supporting information can be cut.
You have a lot of great information on the company and this supporting information is good too, but the focus should be on the primary subject matter of which you have a lot of substantial knowledge. For example, under the environment section almost an entire page shows a screen shot from the book which adds to the paper, but is not essential from the way I am reading through it. This is the same thing on page 19 with the internal environment diagram, you could cut out the diagram and still have a very solid paper.The long term objectives section provide tangible goals for the organization tied to specific dates and is a very well compiled section within the document. The SWOT you have provided is very thorough, but you may want to also consider compiling a paragraph or two to further analyze how the SWOT can impact the organization by leveraging strengths against specific weaknesses or using strengths to take advantage of opportunities.
Your roadmap is very thorough and covers each area in depth focus which was very nicely done. Sabrina Your paper is very well put together so far and you have a lot of great detail on the company.The following recommendations are items you may want to consider as you finalize the paper. The standard strategic plan outline also called for the inclusion of an internal environment analysis which would include items such as the internal operational structure for the organization. You covered the external environment very well, but I didn’t see anything specifically on the internal environment. The long term objectives were very well laid out and tangible.
One thing that was mentioned in a paper I turned in was having these long term objectives also tied to a timeline or schedule such as within the next year or each quarter etc.Your SWOT analysis was good and I can see that you are going through the analysis portion which will highlight the key areas where the company can utilize the information you have laid out. You have a few additional sections to complete, but from I have read so far you are well on your way to completing this assignment. I’d also like to recommend that you go back and look at some of the discussion questions throughout the course because they provide good information you may have already compiled such as critical success factors and the roadmap that will help in completing the additional sections.Sabrina’s Feedback for the Team Patricia: I was very impressed with the Executive Summary.
However, it was a little long. Maybe you could shorten it to highlight the important information. Very good information provided. Nice table explaining the mission statement and values. This made it interesting for me to read.
I believe you have done a great job in the environmental analysis sections as well as explanations of the social, political, etc. Good job on the SWOT Analysis you provided, it was very detailed. The graphs and bulleted areas provide great information.It appears as you have done very well and extensive research. I believe you’re on your way to a great paper! Suzanne: Your paper is very neat and organized. You have provided well research information and have transformed it in a way to make it interesting to the reader.
Nice Job! You have provided quality and important information in the various sections of the paper while making each sections flow smoothly. I do agree that if you used headers under the external environments section, that it would make it flow a little smoother.I really like the format in which you have set up the long-term objectives, this makes it easy to read and is not time consuming. Wonderful Job! Kebreab: You have included very good information in which gives you opportunity to expand upon. Nice setup, I am sure you will format it in APA style once complete. Dell is a great company to do papers on, as I have plenty of times throughout graduate school.
There is an abundance of information, which should prove to you to make a great paper. You are well on your way. Great start.
