Internet’s Influence to Student’s Learning
Nowadays, everyone do uses internet, but most of the people not know its effect.
The Internet has forever changed the world in both positive and negative ways. The Internet enables one to find information any time of the day, as well as provides convenience with regard to such activities as finding information. While the Internet opens a world of possibilities for young generation, expanding their horizons and exposing them to different cultures and ways of life, they can be exposed to many dangers as they hit the road exploring the information highway.Negative effects of internet such as internet addiction, explicit contents and plagiarism are not unusual in today’s culture, if not used properly, the Internet may be severely damaging to the mental and physical health of children and young adults. “Not surprisingly, online pornography and, to some degree, online gambling, have received the most attention—but users are as likely to use other sites, including chat rooms, shopping venues and special-interest Web sites.Our survey did not track what specific Internet venues were the most frequented by respondents, but other studies, and our clinical experience, indicate that pornography is just one area of excessive Internet use” –, Elias Aboujaoude.
On the other hand, the accessibility of pornography and false information and the occurrence of pop-ups on the Internet serve as negative effects. Based on my opinion, with the invention of the Internet the world was forever changed in good and bad ways.The Internet is a vast network of computers and other mini-networks all linked together so that everyone can find information, purchase products, or meet new people. Internet has changed our lives and it is not different for students. The World Wide Web offers a wealth of information which can be useful for every kind of information. Many students don’t need to visit the library anymore for research because you can find plenty of encyclopaedia’s (for example, the Britannica encyclopaedia) and many education sites when you browse through different Internet sites.
Internet is not only a source of information for students. It is also used for communication with other students and even professors. Facebook and other networking sites are popular between students like me to share knowledge. We may also use some messaging services of the Internet, for example Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Mail messenger, Gmail etc. which allow chatting between us students.
We can discuss their educational stuff with other students and we save time because we otherwise have to search a place where we can study together and discuss items. We often focus on how wonderful the Internet is—how simple and efficient it can make things,” elaborated lead author Elias Aboujaoude, MD. “But we need to consider the fact that it creates real problems for a subset of people. ” Not everything that has resulted from the Internet has been positive; some negative things have also come along with it. One of the worst results from the Internet is, inappropriate content such as pornography is available to anyone, including young children. I can say that another negative effect of the Internet is that false information can also be found, which can lead to lots of confusion.
Frustration from advertising has also increased with the Internet. An important issue is also Plagiarism. Students perform their daily tasks but it is possible they use the same words as written in some Internet sites. Teachers may notice similar results of tasks and need to check if they didn’t plagiarism some Internet sites or that they just copied their own work. Students frequently conduct research by using sources that lack credibility and are potentially inaccurate, such as wikis. In addition, students can end up committing plagiarism because of their confusion about accepted research methods and their lack of research skills.
Students might also plagiarize an obscure article, poem or short story for a writing class simply because they don’t expect to be caught or because they expect instant success with little effort. “The Internet is so big, so powerful and pointless that for some people it is a complete substitute for life. ” –, Peter Steiner, cartoon in The New Yorker, July 1993. Yet for me, it’s up to each individual to manage how to use this tool, the internet. Today the internet is part of our daily life and we must learn to avoid the negatives so we can enjoy the positives to their full extent.
