Cause and Effects of Divorce
Over time it has been observed that divorce is rampant with couples where the wife is equally educated as the husband. Women who are earning are highly likely to get divorced with their men. For a long time, people have been seen to live together in units called families, composed of man and wife, and if blessed, with children.
There are many couples who are not able to maintain their relationships; to get out of this union, they choose to divorce, an option that can be pursued when the husband and wife are not in good terms with each other. Most people carefully think before they get into marriage. Although this is the case, the rate of divorce is very high. What is interesting is the fact that divorce is common with the educated and the financially well-off families. Worse still is the fact that the more educated a woman is the highly likelihood that they will divorce in their families. In the contrary, relatively poor families and the less educated seem to have stable families.
This is a trend that raises many questions than answers. Three causes of divorce have been identified and they include changing roles of women, stress found in family life and communication, or lack of it. One of the highly contested reasons given for the high rates of divorce is the fact that women are changing their roles real fast. In the days of yonder, women were regarded as people who were supposed to stay at home and look after the children and prepare for their husbands. Husbands, on the other hand, were the sole bread winners. Women were expected to look up to the husband for virtually everything in the house.
With the changing economic and social responsibilities, this is no longer the case. Women are fast changing in their domestic roles and are seen to out-compete their husbands in their roles as bread-winners. Women are seen to help the husbands in major projects like house construction, land acquisiton and even meet the fee for their children. As they become independent, women tend to have lower threshold tolerance to tolerance. In earlier times, women were supposed to tolerate on an abusive husband because they had no other alternative.
Another cause of divorce with educated women is brought about by equality. The equality that is seen today where women are seeking equality with men is not a surprise give the way women are educated and becoming their own bosses. We also have businesses which are owned by women. Women can therefore work outside to earn money while men can share household tasks like cooking, cleaning, washing and caring for children! With this, it is clear that women are independent of money as they are able to earn money by theirselves and cannot depend on the man alone for these tasks. With this high rate of independence women will leave their husbands in the slightest form of provocation (Coontz 532).Another cause of divorce is the stress that is seen in families today.
With the struggle to earn money, even women today are also enlightened and they are looking for money. The search for money has brought more evil. Women can go places and can do many things which are unheard of in the name of looking for money (Cahvis, & Lyles 254). This is partly caused by the rise in the living conditions. The price of food has risen, gas is ever on the increase and the cost of getting education is ever on the increase.
With this, there is increased struggle to get money. In Thailand, for example, students want to go to famous schools so that they get a chance to go to universities. Another cause of divorce with educated women is that they have little time for their families. Working women have little or no time at all for their families. In a somewhat reversed roles experienced in homes today, men are seen to be having quality time with their children today.
The women put work as priority; this is the root cause of problems that are experienced in the homes today. Happy families need to invest most of the time having fun together. This is hardly the case in many families. With couples travelling far and wide for company errands, looking for education in far lands, and going for business trips abroad, there is little time that is left for families. This was not the case in the past. Women were seen to be with their children and had quality time with their families.
Women cannot compromise their careers to keep a marriage moving. They would rather go on and up in their career ladder than stoop down to levels that would compromise their careers. Yet another cause of divorce is the belief that children should be brought up in good environments rather than stick together in marriages which are not working fro the sake of the children. The scene is changing real fast and the children are preferred to be brought up in these environment. There are many effects that are seen in the families today.
One effect is that we find many children who are lead rebellious lives. This is because for those brought up by their mothers alone, they lack that fatherly behavior for men and the girls brought up by fathers alone will learn the lessons that mothers teach their daughters before they get married. We find rebellion everywhere from schools, work places and even in churches. This is caused by the rebellion we so see. Another effect is that the family as the smallest unit of bringing up the children is no longer regarded as earlier. People take marriage for granted.
With this, instead of families being created at higher rates, we find children orphanage centers coming up very fast. We also find immorality going up. What with the women now having no one to be faithful to, they live recklessly in their lives and this is bringing a lot of diseases and moral decadence.
