Shattered

“Life’s either a great adventure or nothing” said by Helen Keller (Keller).

June 10th, 2008 it’s a hot summer day, I was inside stacking popcorn cans on top of each other to get to something hidden high from me. Suddenly I am falling into the hard floor not yet knowing it but I had shattered my arm, and it would affect the way I did things for the next six weeks. This would take me a very long time to overcome this struggle. Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I too overcame my struggle of breaking my arm. Breaking my arm made the next six weeks hard, even though I’m right handed it was very alien for me to not be able to to use my left arm.

When I was only eight years old I’d broken my first bone. My grandparents helped me with everything I had to do with two hands. I learned to use just one hand because a lot of the time I was doing things alone Like Helen Keller I also had to overcome an obstacle. Breaking my left arm and having to learn to just use my right hand. My grandparents helped me with anything that required my left hand.

I eventually healed and could barely use my left arm again. Although our obstacles were different me and Helen Keller shared a few similarities. We both had to learn how to do something were not used to doing. We both overcame something that was a struggle for us. Even as we both had different struggles we both had to learn something completely alien to us. Having to overcome these struggles are hard, but in the end pay off really because me and Helen both learned something new.

What I learned from Helen’s experience is that nothing’s impossible no matter what or how. What I learned from my experience is that having a little help never hurts. In the lasting words of Helen Keller “Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.” (Keller). Works Cited Keller, Helen.
