The Hobbit: Book and Movie Comparison
In the book, Bilbo Baggins lives in a hole under the hill.
Where he is a respected pillar in the hobbit community. Hobbits are small people with hairy toes and big bellies. They like beer and funny jokes. Even though Bilbo baggins has spent his whole life living under the hill, adventure wounds up at his doorstep. In the movie, Bilbo Baggins and the dwarfs watch as dragon Smaug destroys Laketown.
Bard broke out of prison and has killed Smaug. His body fell and crushed the fleeing master of laketown after he was shot with the black arrow. The people of laketown seek refuge in the ruins of Dale, and Bard was chosen as the new leader. As Tauriel arrives to investigate Mount Gunabad with legolas, Fili, Kili, Bofur and Oin are informed by bilbo that thorin has been inflicted with Dragon Smaug?s sickness as he searched for the arkenstone. Bilbo stole the Arkenstone from smaug but knows it should be hidden from Thorin.
In opinion, i think that the book is better. I think that because if it isn?t a movie that i like, then I probably won?t like the movie. I also think the book is better because it has more details and a longer story then the movie. I mean, the movie is good if you are lazy or not a reading fan. I think the movie is good, just the book has more qualities that i personally like.
A couple things that they changed from the book too the movie is…. In the book, Bilbo invites Gandalf to have some tea on wednesday, but forgets he invited him.
So he hears a knock and expects it?s him, but it?s the 13 dwarfs. In the movie, there was a doorbell rather than a knock, but Bilbo didn?t invite gandalf or anyone to his house. Another example is that in the book, Bilbo finds food and serves it to the dwarfs. In the movie, the dwarfs help them-selves and clean out Bilbo. Theres one example that is really down to detail and you really gotta pay attention. In the book Gloin mentions that the birthday party is on wednesday, but in the movie it isn?t mentioned at all.
I also wanted to mention that in the book, bilbo yells “Struck by lightning! Struck by lightning! I would rather prefer the book then the movie because it really is calming when you have some down time. I also prefer the book because it lasts longer. And you can always go back and read it.
