Human Trafficking; Finding a Dead End

You plan on taking a nice little vacation, as you step off the plane, you find a cab and get in. The guy asks you where you are headed to and you give him the address; he starts the meter and starts driving. It was a long plane ride, so you doze off, and before you know it the cab has stopped in front of a warehouse, and you’re being yanked out of the cab. Right then and there you realize that your life’s about to change forever, and not in a good way.

Human trafficking is happening in many places around the world and most people are probably not sure what goes on during this unfortunate event. How would you like being kidnapped and put in a warehouse with numerous other girls who like you, are being drugged and sold for male pleasure? Well that’s exactly what happens when you become part of the human trafficking process. Girls are terrorized, drugged, raped, and sold to pimps without their consents, throughout the time they are kept in rooms in uncomfortable positions, which could last for weeks or months. Not everyone knows how much those girls go through and how much it can affect their lives, emotionally and physically. Human trafficking doesn’t occur everywhere, but where it does occur it’s hidden to the best of the capturer’s ability.

The places it occurs are North Carolina, Russia, Eastern Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, and Columbia. In order to capture people to sell, they have to have techniques for doing so. Most people captured are girls who are powerless and vulnerable to intimidating men. Most women who are being taken to the warehouses aren’t exactly aware of where they’re going and what’s about to happen to them. This illegal process is not only unfair to women, but it also violates human rights laws. Convention against torture means “any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether it is physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person”, Human trafficking violates these rights in many ways, between the raping, drugging, or being treated as a slave; it shows the reality in which women’s rights are being taken away as fast as they can blink.

According to The Inspire Foundation, 2-4 million people are trafficked each year, making it the fastest growing crime in the world. The question is, though, why? Why are people putting women and children in such a horrible situation? The answer is money. The men in charge of these situations are focused on one thing and that’s money. They are interested in the cheap labor and pleasure they get from those captured and isolated from the world. Imagine a world where you never have to worry about being taken against your will and being sold to people for their pleasure.

In a world like that, everyone could feel safe and be able to live a nice long life in the comfort of those they enjoy, rather than those who are breaking them down slowly by drugging and selling them. Most people don’t always realize what happens in those situations and I believe if they did, most people would do as much as possible to try and stop it the immediately.
