기업운영과 관련된외부 거시환경을 조사하기 위하여 전략컨설턴트들이 사용하는 모델이다. PEST는 다음과 같은 요인들의 약어이다 :

사회(Social)
과학기술(Technology)
PEST 요인은 전략의 가치창출 기회에 중요한 역할을 한다. 그러나 보통은 기업의 통제밖에 있으며 반드시 위협 또는 기회요인으로 고려되어야 한다. 거시경제적 요인은 대륙별, 국가별 심지어 지역별로 다를 수 있고 보통 국가별로 분석을 해야한다는 것을 염두에 두어야 한다.

PEST 분석의 변형
