Project Proposal

Home care is the provision of health care services to persons in their residential areas.

The development of an improved system whose nexus is providing long-term health care to the chronically ill in the nation constitutes a major challenge to the health care system and the cotemporary public policy in general and in particular to the home care compliance department. This system is tasked with meeting the needs of this particular population in a more appropriate manner as well as utilizes finite resources in a more efficient manner. The effect that home care has on the patients’ outcomes as well as the cost of their care has always been a controversial area (Votroubek & Tabacco, 2009). This research will be useful to home care policy makers, care providers, administrators as well as others who make decisions regarding the effectiveness as well as future role of a patients long-term care alternative, that is, home care. The area of study has raised immense interest in recent times because of the potential that it is perceived to hold in improving the outcomes of caring for the chronically ill while reducing the rapidly increasing expenditure for their long-term care.

Literatures derived from most of the studies conducted on the topic indicate that home care service is indeed capable of presenting these effects (Weissert, Chernew,& Hirth, 2003). This research is a synthesis of information that will aim at summarizing the results obtained from studies carried out on home care using quasi-experimental and experimental designs. It will also use explicitly include judgment of the methodological soundness in weighing the results used. In so doing, the study will test the effects that different types of home care services have, target a variety of patient types, as well as the assess the outcomes that are assessed in existing studies. Other important outcomes such as the quality of life, family finances and the quality of care will also be considered (Woolhandler, Campbell, & Himmelstein, 2003).
