The Dangers of Single-Sex Education

Suppose someone had some candy, but they only had two choices. Two pieces of candy, or one piece of candy. Some might say that if they have less candy, they are more healthy. The other side thinks that the more candy they have, the happier they are. This is like the debate of single vs co-education.

Some people are on one side, some people are on the other, but both have some justified reasons. Single-sex education is a controversial topic debated by very many. One side of the argument says that single-sex education is better than co-education.The other side says the opposite is true, that co-education is better. This essay will show readers that single-sex education is worse than co-education, (just like less candy) and should not practiced.

One major point in considering co-education over segregated education is the evidence supporting it.According to “Single-Sex Education Is Assailed in Report”, page one, “Sex-segregated education is deeply misguided and often justified by weak, cherry-picked or misconstrued scientific claims rather than by valid scientific evidence.” Having claims without any evidence to support those claims are bad. That means that any and all of that claim could be false or some degree of false. Another major point is that men and women will eventually work together, and there is almost no stopping that. From “Single-sex education: the pros and cons”, page two, “Students in single-sex classrooms will one day live and work side-by-side with members of the opposite sex.

” Without talking to the opposite sex, people might get biased against the other gender.Being biased in the past has not worked out all too well in many historical cases, and all out war normally ensued because of biases. Finally, sex discrimination is actually illegal, segregation of any kind is illegal in schools. In the article, “Blue Is For Boys, Red Hearts for Girls”, on page one, the column says, “After all, Title IX prohibits sex discrimination in education.” Due to sex discrimination in these schools, those schools are now technically illegal, and illegal things are not good.

If something is illegal, it should most likely be shut down by the government and stopped all together. Some people would have other people think that co-education is bad, and that side has supposedly true evidence to back the evidence up.From Single sex education: the pros and cons, page one, the composition states, “…students of the opposite sex can be a distraction.

” Many think that this is a good reason to not be co-educational, but sometimes distractions are important. From Single-Sex Education Advantages, page one, the text states that “The biggest disadvantage appears to be socialization or lack of it.” Socialization is natural, and humans need other humans. In conclusion, co-education is the better choice when it comes to choosing how anybody learns.Co-education lets people work with people that others can socialize with, helps people learn about how people think and act, and co-education is not illegal. Many will disagree, but anybody can be sure that anyone can make the right decision about education, and everybody should care, too.
