The theme of loneliness in John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, and the loneliness felt by the people affected during World War II go hand in hand. Because both the novel and the war were set during the great depression much of the same emotions were felt by the citizens in America. In addition […]

After the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Baines Johnson became the thirty-sixth President of the United States. He took over the Presidency with great control, passing marvelous programs, calming a flustered country, and using his political skills to have many civil rights bills passed. He worked to lift millions of Americans out of debt, […]

Nearly everyone will identify himself/herself as a virtuous human being, asserting that civilized people are not inclined to nefarious activities. According to students, someone who assisted Hitler and was responsible for the gas chambers in the concentration camps had to […]

As soon as I have a free second I scan the water. As I see what is about to hit us, I can’t believe I didn’t see it before. “Puff on!” I yell to Katie trying to push my voice above the howling 25-knot winds, but it’s too late. We both instinctively hike out further […]
“And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover, / to entertain these fair well-spoken days, / I am determined to prove a villain, / And hate the idle pleasures of these days”(1.1.29-32).Richard was mad about his deformity, and could not, because his deformity, find a suitable partner. So he proved a villain. He wanted to […]
“I have owed to them,/In hours of weariness, sensations sweet/felt in the blood, and felt along the heart” (26-28) The house on the hill overlooked a wide, scraggly field laced with sunflowers and black eyed susans. The shrubs and weeds were sliced by the bike paths I traversed every morning. They led to a road […]
Body Parts on a Chip video from Ted.com I thought it was really cool! It was amazing how they could mimic the organs like that on a tiny computer chip. I had a few questions, though. How long did it take to build a chip like that? A problem would be is it more expensive […]

“Cheerleading is currently established in 79 countries with over 4.5 million cheerleaders worldwide” (“History of Cheerleading”). Although that is where cheerleading is today, it did not start out as a popular past time. “In 1883, Great Britain started the trend of cheering and chanting in unison at sport games, but the first official cheer [was […]
Innocence and Guilt in The Green Mile Innocence and guilt are difficult concepts to determine. There are many factors that can affect people’s judgement when determining someone’s innocence or guilt. In The Green Mile by Stephen King, Paul Edgecombe oversees death row in the Louisiana State Penitentiary — a place full of men deemed to […]
I have the Osgood-Schlatter disease, and I did not learn that it would haunt my insides until I spiraled out of control on a beast of a mountain. All I could remember was immense pain. It was a pain that I had never felt before and for that felt like forever. However, in the end […]
According to the American Psychological Association (“Intelligence,” n. d.), intelligence is defined as intellectual function but this definition can be expanded a lot further. My definition of intelligence is that it is a combination brain fluidity (fluid intelligence) and knowledge gained from surroundings (crystallized intelligence.) Fluid intelligence refers to the ability of being capable of […]
What is the difference in religion? Absolutely nothing! Religion stems from the simple belief that something greater than us is at work on a greater plane of existence. Is that so different that what you think? Three religions have similar history but they are far from the same yet they are similar. Don’t think that? […]

Most New Year’s resolutions are to eat less candy, lose weight, drink less soda, do more volunteer work, or spend less money on useless things. But for most high school students, like Kristen B, it is to do better in school. The new semester is coming quickly, which means students have a fresh start for […]
We shoot through a veil of murky clouds and descend into the darkness below. I press my face to the window, which is blurring from the bits of ice clinging to the glass. I see the airport runway, illuminated with colorful blinking lights and neon signs. Grandma tells me that those airport lights and weird […]

No person should have to spend five days a week at school. I consider it beneficial to take one day off school for students. Is it so wrong to give students an extra day of break from academics? Having an extra day off keeps our minds from tiring out and raises our chances of success. […]

As the story unfolds, Fredrick Henry begins to ponder the question “Who am I”. With the […]
It seemed like an average, typical school day. Teenagers were talking to one another as they prepared for their next class, and teachers graded papers.
